Board-certified orthopedic surgeon joins OCF’s Fort Myers practice after Gardner Orthopedics closes following its acquisition by Lee Health
FORT MYERS, FL, UNITED STATES, September 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Orthopedic Center of Florida (OCF) has added Dr. Madhish Patel, DO, to its team of orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Patel brings his practice in joint replacement, sports medicine, and fracture care to the OCF’s roster of experienced specialists.
Dr. Patel comes to OCF from Gardner Orthopedics, a longtime Fort Myers practice that closed in August 2026 after being acquired by Lee Health. He built his patient base there over several years, and he’s continuing that work at OCF rather than asking patients to start over with someone new.
Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and is board-certified in orthopedic surgery, specializing in joint preservation and replacement, complex primary and revision joint replacement, arthroscopy, sports medicine, and fracture care. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Michigan State University Statewide Campus System in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where he served as Chief Resident. During residency, he received specialized pediatric orthopedic training at Children’s Hospital New Orleans, affiliated with Louisiana State University. He then completed advanced fellowship training in Adult Reconstruction and Hip Arthroscopy in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Throughout his career, Dr. Patel learned from nationally and internationally recognized leaders in orthopedic surgery, physicians who helped pioneer implant design, robotic-assisted surgery, computer navigation, and virtual reality applications in the field. He brings those same technology-driven techniques into his own practice today, pairing them with treatment plans built around each patient’s individual goals.
Dr. Patel is also active in orthopedic education and research. He has presented at national and state orthopedic meetings, and in Southwest Florida he is collaborating with the Institute for Mobility and Longevity and the MORE Foundation, alongside a team of fellowship-trained surgeons, to advance orthopedic education in the region. That work includes developing continuing medical education programs, journal clubs, and outcomes-based research initiatives, as well as building an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship to help train the next generation of orthopedic surgeons.
Dr. Patel’s practice covers a broad range of orthopedic care, including hip and knee replacement, arthroscopic procedures, sports injuries, and fracture treatment. His clinical focus is complex primary and revision shoulder, hip, and knee replacement, including robotic and technology-assisted joint replacement, as well as managing periprosthetic fractures and prosthetic joint infections. He also works with patients on the physical therapy and rehabilitation side of recovery, not just the surgery itself.
