Vascular Surgical Associates, PC (VSA) is celebrating its 40th anniversary this month, marking four decades of vascular care in North Georgia since Dr. Oliver “Fred” King founded the practice in July 1986. Dr. King was joined later that year by Dr. David Hafner, and in 1990 by Dr. Steven Oweida — together, the three were instrumental to the practice’s strategy and growth. What began as a physician’s commitment to his community has grown into a ten-surgeon, 13 Advanced Practice Provider practice employing nearly 170 of our neighbors, who together have treated close to 2 million patients across Cobb, Douglas, Paulding, Bartow, and Cherokee Counties since the practice’s founding.
Last weekend, as the nation celebrated America’s 250th birthday, VSA physicians were on call at its primary health system partner’s Level 1 and Level III Trauma Centers in Cobb County — just as they have been for forty years, providing coverage in the communities where they and their patients live, work, and raise their families.

Today, VSA’s care extends well beyond its practice locations. The practice’s Vein Center of Excellence offers advanced, minimally invasive treatment for venous insufficiency and varicose veins, cosmetic spider veins, symptomatic leg swelling, pelvic congestion concerns, and management of lymphedema and lipedema. VSA’s Dialysis Access Care Centers, Wound Care Centers, seven in-office vascular labs and three angiography suites deliver both venous and arterial diagnostic and interventional vascular care without a hospital visit. VSA’s Prosthetics Centers, supported by two on-staff prosthetists across four offices, round out a continuum of care that few community-based practices in the region can match.
